"If you can't hack it, just leave." A version of this does the rounds every few months. But here's why you won't ever find me saying it to a teacher.... It takes a problem the system built and hands it straight back to the person carrying it.
I know it might seem a bit rich coming from me, as I'm not currently IN the classroom. What you may not know is that I didn't actually have much of a choice in that (that's a story for another day!)
Someone asked me last week how I could possibly have the answers when I'm not in a classroom anymore. And it's a fair question!
The honest answer is that I have the one thing I never had while I was teaching: time.
ā
Time to read the research nobody is handing you a spare hour for. Time to reflect on what did and DIDN'T work in my own room. Plus thousands of teachers in our comments, our DMs and our inbox every single week, telling us exactly what's happening in their classrooms (with the time to create solutions for them!)
It's a different vantage point. Not a better one. But it's current, and it's a LOT of data.
AND - I've also got a resident tech-wizard who spends his days building the exact things teachers ask us for!!
So, while I left the classroom, I never left the job. And instead of telling anyone to leave it, I'll spend my days working my butt off building solutions for you so that it's so much easier to stay!
So - a question for you..
What's making teaching hard for YOU right now? And what would make it easier? I'd looooove you to hit reply and tell me, not so I can fix it in an email, but so we know what to build next.
